Spring Warmth Herbal Tonic for Wine or Tea, or "Carmelite Water"

SPRING WARMTH HERBAL TONIC
“CARMELITE WATER”
for Red Wine or Tea

A warm blend of herbs for enhancing the spice & flavor of your red wine.

Goes best with a red blend or Malbec.

Directions: Pour one bottle of red wine into pot & place on stove at medium heat & let simmer. Once warm, place the herbal tonic bag into the pot & turn heat off. Place cover on pot for 30-60 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the bag & serve wine at room temperature (or, cold if preferred). If making tea, replace wine with water. (One bag per wine bottle full.)

This herbal tonic is one of our versions of "Carmelite Water (wine)", originated by the Carmelite nuns from the Abbey of St Just in the 14th Century. The nuns made the wine by fermenting herbs that have various healing properties, aiding in digestion, reducing fevers, & cleansing the body of everyday toxins. One of the most prominent herbs used in the nun's wine was lemon balm which is known to help in digestion & as a cold & flu symptom relief. They also used the fermented wine as a perfume, as bathing was not common during that time. Our tonic can be used to infuse with wine, steeped in hot water to make tea, or infused in vodka for a fragrant perfume.
